I am an experienced tutor who has been working with students for more than 6 years. I started as a peer tutor in my high school, helping younger students to achieve success in their classes. Since then many other opportunities to help students. As a undergraduate I was fortunate enough to do my federal work study in the Academic Development Center, where I had the chance to tutor students in courses of several different academic disciplines, as well as assisting in the writing lab and working in the computer lab, using computerized learning style assessment tools as well as helping students with their research papers.
After I completed my Bachelors degree I went to work with a private company, American Tutor, where I ran after school programs for public schools. In addition to providing SAT and HESPA preparation for students, I also worked with students who needed extra attention. In this position I integrated technology in the classroom using video and computer projects to engage students. I have also worked with private students, who ranged in age from middle school to college students.
I have also the author of two test prep guides, one for SAT students and one for ACT students.
Tutoring Approach/Experience
I tailor my approach to the needs of the student, and the ways that they best learn. After the first session, I will provide you with a lesson plan based on your strengths and areas that need work.
I tend to build on existing skills to help students learn in a meaningful way. Lessons are more of a dialogue then a monologue, and whenever possible I try to engage all of the senses.
In test prep situations, I work with more then just the test questions. Depending on your needs, we can develop the underlying skills that will help you to ace the test, and help you for the rest of your academic career.
Custom lesson plans are available for home school students at no additional charge. We will work together to create a plan that will not only meet your child's needs as an individual, but to help them grow and make the most of their natural talents.
Virtual sessions are an option for students and parents who do not want a stranger in their home.
