Personal Statement

I recently graduated Cum Laude from Boston University’s School of Education last semester after working towards achieving a Bachelors of Science degree for secondary history education. I also just recently finished my student teaching experience at North Quincy High School where I taught two periods of US history; one was a standard class and the other was honors. I also co-taught two periods of drama; furthermore above my regular teaching duties I co-directed the high school’s fall play.

Through my work at North Quincy High School and my studies at Boston University I am uniquely qualified to tutor in the subject area of history, particularly for the middle or high school level. In fact I also spent this past summer living in Dublin, Ireland where I worked at the National Museum of Ireland. This opportunity allowed me to experience working in a different culture and getting to work with history in a hands-on environment. I feel my time in Ireland and my time working at the National Museum greatly broadened my understanding of history and culture and will in turn be a great asset to my tutoring any student.

I am also efficient in English and would be capable of tutoring any student in literature or writing. I am particularly capable at helping students structure and write all types of school papers.

Tutoring Approach/Experience

Since I am a teacher myself I am fully qualified to tutor in one-on-one situations because I encounter this every day in my working career. I have learned to pinpoint areas where students are struggling and sit down with them in a safe and comfortable one-on-one environment to help them conquer their weak areas.

During our first meeting I would like to sit down with the student and get a firm grasp of the student's strengths and weaknesses. By pinpointing the areas the student is struggling with we can work on improving these areas while continuing to reinforce the student's strong points.

I also firmly believe in keeping the parents involved throughout the tutoring process. They should be made aware of their students achievements and setbacks so we can all work together to help their student achieve his or her fullest potential!

Kelly is a great tutor. She has tutored my 14 year old daughter mainly covering her school assignments and to focus on her reading and writing. Kelly has helped us to pinpoint my daughter's strengths and weaknesses and on how she needs to improve. My daughter has gained the confidence to keep up with her work and try to find ways to focus and finish her school assignments.
